Winter Deep Water Diving
Project Type
Project Description
During the winter of 2012 UCC Midwest Division was contracted to perform a deep water diving inspection for a hydroelectric facility in the Northern Midwest. One of UCC’s double lock chambers and deep water diving oversight was provided onsite to increase the safety of the dive.
Multiple dives were required to assess the structure and UCC project management worked closely with site engineers to provide the required information. A 6X6 foot hole was cut out of the 30” thick ice to provide access. Water temperature measured 38 degrees and dive depth exceeded 100’. In low visibility water UCC divers were able to provide the required data to the owners and bring the project to successful completion.
